The Akademik Fedorov Heads for Murmansk

The organization works of the research station “NP-35” are finished, and on September 21st the formal opening ceremony took place. The first meteorological report from the station was transmitted to Roshydromet.

The Arktika-2007 expedition goes forward

The main aim of the expedition is to find the ice-floe to organize the drifting station “North Pole-35” there.

At the moment the expedition is in the Arctic Ocean and heads on South-West. Its location coordinates are: 85° 14’ North latitude and 105° 10’ East longitude. The air temperature is -10°C, water temperature -1°C

From The Western Hemisphere to The Eastern through the North Pole

Today, at about 6 p.m. the vessel Akademik Fedorov will pass through the North Pole line thus getting from the Western Hemisphere to the Eastern. At the moment the vessel is going towards Severnaya Zemlya.

WARM WEATHER COMPLICATES THE SEARCH FOR A DRIFTING ICE-FLOE

Russia has organized research expeditions at the North Pole for 70 years already. The first Soviet research expedition “North Pole-1” was organized in 1937. Its work launched the planned nature study in the most remote northern part of the planet. It is highly important that the drifting ice-floes where research stations are built should meet certain strict requirements which let the station work all year round.

The expedition Arktika-2007 aimed at organizing the research station “NP-35” is in full play now. Now the research and expedition vessel Akademik Fedorov is leaving the Canadian sector and is going to Novaya Zemlya along the Northern Hemisphere.

MVK congratulates the crew of the Akademik Fedorov!

The Roshydromet Arctic and Antarctic Research Studies Institute was built in 1987 at the Rauma-Tellak dockyard. It is a unique research icebreaker vessel. And today, on September 10th the Akademik Fedorov is 20. The Russian flag was raised on the shipboard to honour the anniversary.

Itinerary of the expedition’s Arktika-2007 participant

The expedition Arktika-2007 is going on. Its aim is finding an ice-floe to organize a drifting research station “North Pole (NP)-35”. On September 4th the vessel Akademik Fedorov with the participants of the expedition on board approached the atomic-ship “Rossiya” and is following it now.
