The Akademik Fedorov Heads for Murmansk

The organization works of the research station “NP-35” are finished, and on September 21st the formal opening ceremony took place. The first meteorological report from the station was transmitted to Roshydromet.

The formal opening ceremony included the hoisting of the flag. The MVK team: Vladimir Filatov and Yury Chubara, actively participated in the ceremony. They have prepared a pennon of the three flags: Russian, Moscow and MVK. The pennon will be dropped into water 2300 m deep (the thickness of the ice-floe).

On September 22nd at 12.30 a.m. after all the goods were discharged and the expedition team put down, the vessel Akademik Fedorov de-berthed the ice-floe and headed for Murmansk.

According to Vladimir Filatov, the weather at the North Pole has not changed, it is only getting worse. The storm is 5-6 points on the scale, strong squally wind blows, it sleets and it is foggy.
