Tomorrow, after reaching 83º Nord, moving on the east side of Franz Josef Land, the Akademik Fedorov will be released on the ice and in one of the ice-holes test dive of the Mir-1 and the Mir-2 deep manned submersibles will be conducted. Today on the eve of a trial dive Head of the high-Arctic deep-sea expedition, Artur Chilingarov came in a helicopter from the nuclear ice-breaker Russia for the press conference. He noted that the purpose of the trial dive is to complete the main task – the submersibles’ dive at the North Pole.

The Akademik Fedorov and the Russia run to the North free

The research vessel Akademik Fedorov participating in the expedition to the North Pole today at three o’clock in the morning met the nuclear-powered ship Russia , and right now the vessels move in trail. Today at 10.30 the expedition was at 72 degrees and 52 minutes of the north latitude, and 9 degrees and 73 minutes of the east longitude, and held a course of 26 degrees to the North in the Barents Sea.

The Arktika-2007 expedition: Dive at Franz Josef Land

Today, at 3 pm, the icebreaker Russia left Murmansk for the North Pole. This is a unique expedition of a large group of Russian scientists, whose main task is to study the shelf of the Arctic Ocean, to clarify the limits of the shelf from the New Siberian Islands to the North Pole.
