Today at 5am Moscow time the international crew of the research drifting station North Pole-35 arrived at Tiksi, Vladimir Filatov informed us on the phone.

The MVK team came to the continent

The route through Kola Bay took three hours. Then we moored. At 3 am members of the high-latitude arctic deep water expedition tumbled to the deck tingling with eagerness. The “Akademik Keldysh” was going alongside the dock. But we could not come off the ship, we didn’t have permission. We had to wait for an agent with the needed papers and permission.

The MVK team landed in Moscow

We realize the importance of the expedition and it meaning for the museum of the “Mobile polar museum”, we appreciate the responsibility and trust given to us, and we would like to express our gratitude to the Head of the project “North Pole – role of history in life and business”, Director of the mobile polar museum Alexey Shaburov. Owing to Mr. Shaburov we made this project!

Orange caravan. Symbolic coincidence

I guess, all the participants of Arktika’2007 remembered the symbols of MVK. They recognized the four of us by our MVK suits. The uniform protected the MVK team from frost and wind when we were opening the exhibition at the North Pole in April’2007.

Summing-up the arctic high-latitude deep water expedition

“We proved it is possible to dive to the depth of 4 km and resurface. And the task to determine the Russian continental plate in the Arctic is a national goal”, - said Arthur Chilingarov, the head of Arktika-2007 expedition, at the ITAR-TASS press conference.

The MVK arctic expedition goes on. Aboard the research vessel “Akademik Fyodorov”

Today Moscow greeted the heroic polar researchers, who participated in the Arktika’2007 expedition. Russian and foreign journalists and the MVK team were meeting the air-lift from Spitsbergen to Moscow. The Head of the deep-water expedition Artur Chilingarov emphasized: “the MVK team which accompanied us on the ice-breaker, was very professional. I like this team, it is creative, fast and friendly”.

Triumphal return!

Today the whole of Russia enthusiastically met the polar explorers – members of the Arktika-2007 expedition. The special flight from Norway to Moscow with the “polyarniks” onboard was warmly welcomed by Russian and foreign journalists, MVK staff.

Polar bear at the North Pole. Interview by N. Ovsyannikov

For the first time people saw a polar bear at the North Pole. Until that day, it was thought that these animals do not go so far to the north. Now the Russian song’s words, “...bears chafe their backs on the earth’s axis” are confirmed. In the morning of the dive at the North Pole, a polar bear came to the icebreaker Russia. From the board of the research vessel Akademik Fedorov the bear was just discernible.

Greetings from Mike Hewitt on the successful dive to the Arctic ocean floor

Congratulations to “Akademik Fedorov”'s captain Mikhail Kaloshin and expedition leader Artur Chilingarov on the successful completion of the first dive to the ocean floor at the North Pole and the “raising” of a titanium flag on the seabed. This was indeed a daring feat but how different from the scene at the North Pole in 1937, as described by Ernst Krenkel in his book “RAEM Is My Callsign”:
