Murmansk is situated in several areas, separated by hills. The population numbers about 330 thousand people. The city is situated among the hills on the shore of the ice-free Kola Bay, 50 kilometers from the Barents Sea gate.

Again to the North: the MVK expedition reached Murmansk

The MVK expedition which is a part of the complex research arctic expedition to dive to the bottom of the Arctic Ocean, arrived in Murmansk. The team left Moscow at 11 am. Artur Chilingarov, the Special Representative of the Russian President concerning the International Polar Year, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Parliament, Hero of the Soviet Union, wrote in the MVK logbook, “July 23rd, 2007. 11 am. The expedition is leaving for Murmansk”.

The North calls for MVK! Our company takes parts in a scientific expedition to the North Pole

On July 19th, 2007 at 2.00 pm the information agency ITAR-TASS held a press-conference dedicated to the expedition of Russian deep water manned vehicles which will be the first to dive to the Ocean bottom at the North Pole. The press-conference presidium included: Special representative of the President of the Russian Federation on matters of the Third International Polar Year, Vice Chairman of the State Duma Arthur Chilingarov, RAS Academician, Director of the Oceanology Institute n.a. P.P. Shirshov Robert Nigmatulin, Head of the Federal Service on hydrometeorology and environment monitoring of the Russian Federation Alexander Bedritsky.

A new project is started

On July 12th, 2007 Alexey Shaburov, Director General of MVK International Exhibition Company met Artur Chilingarov, the Representative of the Russian President concerning the 3rd International Polar Year, the Deputy Head of the Russian Parliament. They agreed to create the section dedicated to modern polar researchers in the framework of the Polar Museum Role of History in Life and Business, marking the 70th anniversary of the first Soviet research drifting station NP-1, set up by Schmidt and Papanin, and the two polar flights of Chkalov and Gromov.

Expanding the horizons. The Northern project of MVK starts in the Northern capital

The Russian capital of polar explorations will soon welcome the mobile polar museum of MVK. Its managers started the preparations with measuring the central square of St.Petersburg which is seen as the best ground for museum opening.
